Alexander McQueen Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala ball

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala ball took place amid high expectations of red carpet exhibits.  Celebrities certainly excelled at this Alexander McQueen themed fashion event. Stars like Salma Hayek, in a golden chiffon gown by Sarah Burton, and Sarah Jessica Parker in a figure hugging golden sheath positively showed up the brilliance of McQueen.

A feather creation worn by Daphne Guinness was the highlight of Sarah Burton’s second solo presentation earlier in the year.  Naomi Campbell also wore a Sarah Burton creation while the designer herself was dressed in her own simpler design.

Co-host of the show, Stella McCartney wearing her own design, took the opportunity to display her creations on Madonna, Iman, Eva Mendes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hailee Stenfeld, the 14 year old True Grit Star, and Rihanna who did full justice to her perfectly fitting lace gown.

Other notables gracing the event were Blake Lively, Karl Lagergfeld and Christopher Bailey who was very proud of his satin pink creation worn by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.  Expectant mother, Jessica Alba, arrived in an elegant, strapless Ralph Lauren design. Kristen Bell arrived with designer Tory Burch and Kanye West who she had also dressed, her way of announcing the launch of her first men’s collection.
