Madonna’s new fashion collection for young teen girls debuted at Macy’s today although the chief complaint seems to be that it is not quite as ‘Material Girl’ as most would expect, despite Madonna’s claim that the clothes would prompt wearers to ‘strike a pose.’
The Collection, titled aptly the Material Girl Collection, is a collection of designs created by Madonna and her 13 year old daughter Lourdes.
Dori Robau from Macy’s stated that you can see some vintage Madonna in the collection but it is blended well together with the younger influence of Lourdes.
For the most part the clothes have the 80’s style mixed with the modern trends bringing the fashion sense of the eighties into a more contemporary light adding to the collection some plaids and camouflage prints.
Cargo shorts, print dresses, a tulle miniskirt, tops, leggings, and some skinny jeans make up the collection along with one very lace dress that hugs the body. Accessories are also part of the line offering young teens metal chains, studded handbags, and faux pearls.
Topping of the line in terms of expense is a leather studded biker jacket. Madonna also included shoes tossing in some combat boots, laced oxfords, and floral ballet flats.
Others did not have such an open reception to the line with Philip Bloch, the celebrity stylist, commenting that the line is made for rich girls who want to look like they have a hardened edge but come out looking more middle of the road.
