Victoria Beckham has moved from cheap style to posh style as she officially has now been recognized as a top fashion designer with the announcement that her label is part of the shortlist for the Designer Brand of the Year Award offered by the British Fashion Council. Her competitors for the title include Pringle, Mulberry, and Burberry.
Beckham launched her own label in 2008 amidst more than a few raised eyebrows of those who expected that she would have little to add to the fashion industry. However, in just four short collections she has proven that she has plenty to offer fashion with A-listers wearing her styles left and right. Some of the top endorsers/regular wearers of her label include Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Even though Beckham shows her collections during fashion week in New York, the brand still belongs in London where it is designed and created. Given the fact that the leading brands on nominated on the shortlist were established in the 1850’s (Burberry and Pringle), Beckham’s brand is very much a baby brand in comparison.
However, even though she may not have the history to win the award, the fact she made the shortlist proves that the fashion industry has finally accepted her talent. Chairman of the BFC, Harold Tillman, stated that the diversity among the nominees shows that there is a great deal of vision and talent among designers in Britain.
