Scottish Fashion Awards 2012 handed out in Glasgow

The awards have been handed out at the Scottish Fashion Awards for 2012. One of the highlights was Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan who picked up the Scottish Fashion Icon award. The former model, 24, is becoming just as famous for her sense of style as she is for her acting abilities, which are considerable.

The awards were hosted by Alexa Chung, herself something of a fashion icon and were held in the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow. The evening featured a galaxy of celebrities on the stage, and in the audience. Singer Jade, Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh and model David Gandy were among the stars present. Talia Storm and Dionne Bromfield entertained throughout the evening.

In other award categories, the Designer of the Year title went to Christopher Kane, who said everyone should be proud of the heritage Scotland has built up in the fashion industry. Model of the Year for the second year in a row was Tali Lennox, daughter of Annie Lennox and Mulberry picked up the International Designer of the Year title.

Organisers were pleased at the attendance of so many celebrities and the international flavour of the evening. Chairman Tessa Hartmann believes the awards are now a launching pad for many of Scotland’s designers and manufacturers. Hartmann went on to say that the awards were a way to discover the “wealth of talent” right here in Scotland but was also a platform for established figures in the industry.
