Well known British brands named as winners of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise

Boxfresh, Hackett London, Regatta and Marks & Spencer are amongst many fashion brands which are to be given the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. The awards, which encourage UK business ventures in innovation, international trade and sustained development, are announced on 21 April, the Queen’s birthday, each year are the highest accolade for the success of business.

The awards are made by Her Majesty the Queen, who is advised by the Prime Minister. The decision is also assisted by an Advisory Committee with delegates from industry and commerce, Government and trade unions. Receiving a 2012 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade are Hackett London. The prestigious award recognises the company’s expansion overseas and further plans to expand into Europe, the Far East and some Middle Eastern countries.

Managing Director of Hackett London, Vicente Castellano, is reported to have said what a great privilege it was to have been granted this important award by Her Majesty the Queen, adding his thanks to everyone who helped achieve the increase of business success in a relatively short period.

Mr Castellano went on to say that this year will remain exciting with further opportunities, as the Hackett brand moves farther afield. Both the European and Eastern markets have become important for UK style brands and Hackett London are excited to be part of the export business.

There were other businesses who also won awards for international trading, and these were outdoor clothing specialists, Regatta; the clothing and footwear brand, Boxfresh; the woman’s footwear company, Elitehill (better known as Duo); M Chapman and Sons, the suppliers of cotton, corduroy, moleskin and velvet; knitwear company, King Cole; and Henry Poole, a well-known company from Saville Row.

Although there were no awards handed out fashion houses for innovation. Marks & Spencer were amongst those who picked up prizes in the category for sustainable development. They received this for the Plan A programme, which effectively embeds the sustainable management of both resources and relationships across all of its business operations.
