French connection is a store that has not been doing very well in recent years and it has stuck with rather safe fashion statements that have not made the company move forward particularly quickly. The company have just made the announcement that they are going to be closing 14 of their stores in the UK including some of their stores at their most prominent locations including Lakeside and Bluewater.

French Connection was founded in 1972 by Stephen Marks and he made his clothing in Hong Kong by utilising low-cost labour. Unlike some other destinations for manufacturing, his clothes were still is a high-quality and they became very popular in the country.

The company has experienced a great deal of success in the past and in 1983, it was estimated that Mr Marks was the 15th richest man in the UK. Share prices of the company were trading at 123p which is significantly higher than today’s share price of around 16p.

The marketing campaigns of the company were very aggressive and attention grabbing and it was something that really brought the brand to people’s attention. The acronym of the company was also very popular and attracted complaints which only serve to boost the company’s marketing campaigns. Unfortunately, the company has been facing increased competition from lower-priced competitors.

Samsung have recently launched a new advertising campaign which has seen the creation of three Hollywood style trailers. All of the trailers feature three different characters who cause problems for modern mobile devices including tablet computers, mobile phones and laptops.

One of the characters is called Battery Brutus and he is responsible in the adverts for mobile devices running out of power too quickly. In the trailer he is seen stealing the power from devices through a strange straw which results in a great many frustrated users.

What is equally frustrating to users as the effect of one of the other characters, Fiona Freeze, who causes mobile devices to freeze when processing. In the advert for this character, all of the users seem to have their devices freeze at the most important point.

The third, and final, character is known as Loading Ball Larry and he frustrates users by making their applications slow to load. Once again, as with the previous characters, it sees people’s mobile devices not performing at the times that they need them most.

The idea behind this effort is to raise awareness of Samsung memory, which Samsung say will alleviate many of these problems. Devices that have Samsung Memory inside them are less likely to run out of battery so quickly, are also less prone to freezing up, and allow applications to load faster.

This technology is something that Samsung has had for a while but as you can see from the set of adverts, it is clear that the company intend to raise this technology’s profile in the future. The adverts are very dramatic and right until the end, the user is not made aware of what is being advertised. This is a rather uncommon sort of advertising and it really makes people take note of what’s going on.

The brand achieved a great deal of attention about a decade ago for creating very popular T-shirts, their other items were also very successful but in recent years the company has been struggling. Many fashion experts say this is because they have lost their way in a general sense and have struggled to bring people back to the brand.

French Connection is not the only company to have been cutting back the number of stores they have and the economic situation has meant that sales have decreased while shop rents have increased. Many other retailers have also decided to cut back in order to focus on just the few larger stores. Currently the company has over 70 stores in the UK and they are going to be closing 14 of these in the near future.

This is not the only country where the company are closing stores and in India, 15 stores are being closed and in China 12 shops are being shut down. The chairman of the company is Stephen Marks and he has commented, “This has been a very difficult time for the company and we are having to take decisions which will benefit the business in the long term.”

In an interview with Vogue magazine she said, “I’ve been designing for 10 years now and I think I have a very good understanding of our consumer. I think that this new range of clothes is going to appeal to a different set of people and it is going to complement the clothes we already have on the market.

“Even people who cannot afford high end items still appreciate good design and quality, and this is something that we are going to offer. We are delighted to have John Lewis as our partner as they stand for immense quality and taste.”

The range of clothing is going to contain 60 items and it is expected to be available from early September. The prices are going to be significantly less than her higher end collection with items starting from just £30. However, there are going to be some seriously expensive items in the range, including a coat made from sheepskin which is going to retail for £1000. Also in the collection are going to be military style jackets, knitted items and blouses.

The designer has won a great deal of praise internationally for her work, and is perhaps most known for the dress that she created for the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, Pippa Middleton, which she wore to the wedding reception last April. She has recently been awarded an MBE by the Queen for her services to the country in regard to fashion.

The awards are made by Her Majesty the Queen, who is advised by the Prime Minister. The decision is also assisted by an Advisory Committee with delegates from industry and commerce, Government and trade unions. Receiving a 2012 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade are Hackett London. The prestigious award recognises the company’s expansion overseas and further plans to expand into Europe, the Far East and some Middle Eastern countries.

Managing Director of Hackett London, Vicente Castellano, is reported to have said what a great privilege it was to have been granted this important award by Her Majesty the Queen, adding his thanks to everyone who helped achieve the increase of business success in a relatively short period.

Mr Castellano went on to say that this year will remain exciting with further opportunities, as the Hackett brand moves farther afield. Both the European and Eastern markets have become important for UK style brands and Hackett London are excited to be part of the export business.

There were other businesses who also won awards for international trading, and these were outdoor clothing specialists, Regatta; the clothing and footwear brand, Boxfresh; the woman’s footwear company, Elitehill (better known as Duo); M Chapman and Sons, the suppliers of cotton, corduroy, moleskin and velvet; knitwear company, King Cole; and Henry Poole, a well-known company from Saville Row.

Although there were no awards handed out fashion houses for innovation. Marks & Spencer were amongst those who picked up prizes in the category for sustainable development. They received this for the Plan A programme, which effectively embeds the sustainable management of both resources and relationships across all of its business operations.

The 38 year-old former Spice Girl has designed a Special Edition Range Rover and it was unveiled yesterday at the hip Cafa Art Museum. There will only be two hundred of The Victoria Beckham Special Edition Evoque made and at a retail price of £79,995 the clientele it attracts will be pretty exclusive.

Victoria’s husband, David, has not yet seen the Range Rover but he is sure to be impressed by the tan leather seats and rose gold-plated grille surround. The car also comes with a four-piece set of Victoria’s designer luggage. It is certainly a piece of quality craftsmanship; a car to be seen in.
